Hestan Cue Smart Pan Rebate

A bit ago on June 1, 2025 I walked out of a Famous Tate store after ordering a new induction stove top. Included with that purchase was a piece of paper for an online rebate to obtain a free Hestan Cue Smart Pan. In that exact moment I had no idea what a smart pan was, but seeing how it was free I was going to submit the rebate.
VIA ONLINE REBATE, GET A FREE Hestan Cue smart pan for a limited time with the purchase of a select GE Profile range or cooktop in the 50 US states or DC. Shop smarter. Cook smarter. Purchase a select GE Profile slide-in range or cooktop from GE Appliances and receive a free Hestan Cue 11” smart pan. Offer valid through June 30, 2025.
Sure enough on June 16, 2025 when the stove was installed I wasted no time with my receipt and serial number in hand and submitted the claim.
Hi Connor,
We have successfully received your GE Appliances rebate claim submission and your claim reference number is #________. If you did not send your documentation with the claim form, please ensure that all required documentation is received by Sunday, August 31, 2025.
At that point I completely forgot about the pan entirely until November 10, 2025 when it arrived at the door. This was roughly 147 days after the rebate was submitted and we didn't really need a new pan, but we decided to dive in and unpack it. Right out the gate I didn't realize why this pan was so big and thick, but quickly we remembered it was a "smart pan" which required us loading batteries into the handle.

This was such a weird pan that it required us to download an application for it to self regulate temperature against our stove top. So a quick search on Google Play and I had the application downloaded and ready to roll. I was a bit worried that it only had 2.6 stars out of 5, but pushed on.

As I tried to register it failed over and over again which was odd. I thought perhaps my network was blocking the requests, so I turned off my Pi-hole and tried again which failed once again. I wondered what was going on so I read a few reviews of people complaining about this situation.
The app no longer works at all which, looking at their website, appears to be entirely intentional.
App no longer works which means the pans no longer work. Lots of money just flushed down the toilet. Thanks Hestan Cue 👎🏽
Can't log in. Just got a new pan and had to download the app. Just keeps giving me a turning circle when I try to create an account and login.
This didn't sound good, so I went off to the website where I felt so much time wasted after getting this far.

The website announced on July 1, 2025 that a few weeks later on July 21, 2025 that the application would be shutdown. Here I am downloading the application fresh off the store in November of 2025 and sure enough the application is still available for download on the Android store.
So that felt a bit sour, so I dug further onto the website and found the support articles that outlines how much this pan decays with this application going away.
After July 21, 2025, if you own the Hestan Cue cooktop and cookware, you will no longer be able to use them with any "smart" functions or for any "guided" recipes. This is because all smart cooking functions and guided recipes are hosted by the Hestan Cue app.

It seems the application was doing the heavy lifting of moderating the temperature by communicating that status of pan heat back to the stove top to turn the temperature down/up. It probably needed the application as the middle man to regulate communication between the cloud / stove / pan through some combination of Internet and Bluetooth. So I felt a bit of anger that a pan I got purely through a rebate is not even functional for its main selling point.
Thankfully since I forgot about this rebate entirely and didn't really buy the stove for any rebate reason this doesn't bother me as much as it would if I actually cared about this product. It does remind though of the unfortunate present time that an Internet dependent service is nothing but a temporary rental from the company you acquired said product from.
